Migrate from a Ledger Hardware Wallet to UKey Core 26
Decide first: keep your existing addresses or use a new wallet?
There are two ways to move from Ledger to UKey Core 26:
Your goal | What to do | What happens |
Keep your existing accounts and addresses | Restore your Ledger wallet's seed phrase on the UKey Core 26 device, using the same passphrase, network, address type, and derivation path | Both devices may control the same on-chain accounts; restoring does not make an on-chain transfer or replace the original seed phrase |
Use entirely new recovery information | Create a new wallet on Core 26, then send assets from your Ledger accounts to new addresses verified on the device | Assets move on-chain to new addresses and network fees apply; the old and new wallets have different seed phrases |
If your original seed phrase has been entered on a website, phone, or computer, or you suspect it has been exposed, do not treat restoring it on new hardware as a key change. Consider creating a new seed phrase and transferring assets. No method can guarantee recovery of assets already sent away.
Before you begin
Make sure you have a complete Ledger seed phrase backup in the correct order. If you used a passphrase, you must also know the exact original passphrase. UKey support does not need it; never send it to them.
While you can still access your Ledger accounts, record the assets, networks, public addresses, account numbers, and BTC address types you need to move. Record only public account information; do not photograph or upload a seed phrase, private key, or passphrase.
Prepare a new or fully cleared UKey Core 26. If Core 26 already contains another wallet, first confirm that wallet can be recovered. Do not reset your only usable device just to follow this guide.
Install UKey Wallet from the official UKey download page and check the device status using the Core 26 setup guide. Confirm that UKey Wallet supports the relevant assets, networks, and address types before proceeding.
Option 1: restore your Ledger wallet on Core 26
Step 1: enter the seed phrase only on the Core 26 device. During setup, select Import Wallet → Mnemonic phrase. Follow the device prompts to select the same word count as your Ledger backup, then enter each word in its original order on Core 26 and complete the remaining on-device steps. Do not enter the phrase in UKey Wallet App, a computer, phone, website, support chat, or online derivation tool. If the device does not support your word count or backup format, stop and contact official support. Do not alter the backup format yourself.
Step 2: restore the original passphrase wallet, if applicable. If your Ledger account used a passphrase, the same seed phrase without that passphrase will produce different addresses. Follow the passphrase process for the current Core 26 firmware and match every letter, space, and symbol exactly. See Passphrase and hidden wallet guidance. A PIN controls local access to the device; it does not replace the original passphrase.
Step 3: connect UKey Wallet and check the derivation path. Connect the device following the Core 26 user guide. In UKey Wallet for Mac, open Settings → Wallet → Account Derivation Path to view the BTC, EVM, and Solana options. In the inspected Mac version 1.1.5 (2026082872), BTC offers Legacy, Nested SegWit, Native SegWit, and Taproot; EVM and Solana also offer a “Ledger Live” derivation path. Check and select the network, address type, and account number used by the original Ledger account. The presence of an option does not mean every Ledger account will be found automatically. Other platforms, versions, and account discovery limits still require product verification.
Original account | What to check in UKey Wallet | Notes |
Bitcoin | Whether the original address begins with | One seed phrase can derive multiple BTC addresses. Common account paths begin with |
Ethereum and other EVM networks | The original Ledger account's derivation scheme and account number; UKey Wallet shows | The displayed Ledger Live path is |
Solana | The original account's derivation scheme and account number; UKey Wallet shows | The displayed Ledger Live path is |
Whether Litecoin, Kaspa, or other assets can rediscover an original Ledger account from the same seed phrase on Core 26 must be checked separately by asset, address format, and derivation rule. This draft makes no blanket compatibility claim.
Step 4: verify addresses before managing assets. In UKey Wallet, select the same network and account, verify the receiving address on the device screen, and compare it with the public address at the same derivation position in the Ledger account. BTC wallets may rotate receiving addresses, so comparing only the first or latest address shown on each side may not establish whether they are the same account. If needed, ask product support to help check account and address indices without providing a seed phrase or passphrase.
If the addresses match, both devices point to the same on-chain address for the network and derivation position checked. Continue checking every account and asset you need. A balance that does not appear immediately does not mean the on-chain assets are gone; network selection, account discovery, token display, or synchronization may be involved. If addresses differ or you cannot verify them, stop signing and transferring. Recheck the seed phrase, passphrase, network, address type, account number, and derivation path.
Restoring does not automatically disable the original Ledger device. First confirm that UKey Core 26 can access the accounts you need and keep your backup safe; then decide whether to retain Ledger as another access device. Do not reset the original device or discard its backup before verification is complete.
Option 2: create a new wallet on Core 26 and transfer on-chain
If you want a new seed phrase, or the original Ledger seed phrase may have been exposed, create a new wallet on Core 26 instead of importing the old phrase. Record and verify the new backup offline as prompted by the device, and verify the new receiving address on its screen. Then initiate transfers from the original Ledger account. Check the asset, network, address, and network fee first. You may send a small test amount you can afford, confirm the on-chain result, and then move the remaining assets. Follow asset- and network-specific instructions for transfers; staking positions, NFTs, smart-contract approvals, and cross-chain assets do not move automatically when you change wallets.
A new address being different from the old one is expected. If the original wallet still holds assets, do not reset Ledger or discard its backup before migration is complete. If you suspect someone else is using the original seed phrase, seek network-specific guidance through a trusted channel promptly. Never send secrets or assets to an address supplied by a supposed “migration support” agent.
Frequently asked questions
Why is my address or balance different after restoring the original seed phrase? Check whether you used a passphrase, as well as the original account's network, BTC address type, derivation path, account number, and address index. Account discovery and synchronization can also affect the balance shown in the app. Do not repeatedly enter your seed phrase into online tools to try paths.
Do I need to transfer assets after restoring the original seed phrase? If you have confirmed the same addresses, restoration itself does not move on-chain assets. If you want the old seed phrase to stop controlling your assets, create a new seed phrase and transfer supported assets on-chain.
Can I import my Ledger seed phrase directly into UKey Wallet App? This guide covers migration to the Core 26 hardware wallet. Entering a seed phrase previously used only inside hardware into connected software changes its security boundary. Do not use the app's “import software wallet” flow as a substitute for this guide.
What information can I give support? You may provide the device model, app and firmware versions, asset, network, public address, error message, and non-sensitive steps already tried. Do not provide a seed phrase, private key, passphrase, PIN, or complete recovery backup. Use the official UKey contact page.
