Applicable scenarios
Air-Gap (air gap isolation) mode is an advanced security protection mechanism. After enabling this mode, UKey Core 26 actively disables all physical and wireless data transmission channels including Bluetooth, USB and NFC.
Communication between your hardware device and UKey Wallet will rely solely on mutual scanning of QR codes. This method physically isolates the device from the external network. Effectively protect against online attacks. This article will guide you through turning on Air-Gap mode, connecting devices, and the daily transaction signing process.
Preparation and usage restrictions
Before starting configuration, please note the following:
Firmware requirements: Please make sure your UKey Core 26 hardware wallet firmware has been updated to the latest version for the most stable scanning experience.
Support network restrictions: Currently, UKey Core 26 only supports generating EVM compatible chains and Bitcoin (Bitcoin) addresses in Air-Gap mode.
Operation steps
Step 1: Turn on Air-Gap mode
To connect using a QR code, you must first enable isolation mode on the hardware device:
Wake up and unlock your UKey Core 26 device.
Enter your device's Settings menu.
Find and click "Air Gap Mode" and turn on the switch to enable this mechanism.
Step 2: Connect via QR code UKey Wallet
After turning on Air-Gap mode, follow these steps to associate the hardware with the wallet application:
Get hardware pairing code: On the UKey Core 26 screen, select "Connect App Wallet" > "QR Code" > "UKey Wallet App". At this point, a pairing QR code will be displayed on the device screen.
Prepare client application: Open and unlock (via password or biometrics) your UKey Wallet client.
Add hardware device: Click on the current account name on the main interface, and select "Add Wallet" > "Connect Hardware Wallet". Clients without bound accounts can directly click "Create Wallet" > "Connect Hardware Wallet".
Scan code to connect: Select "QR Code" in the connection method, and use UKey Wallet to call the camera and scan the pairing QR code on the UKey Core 26 screen.
Tips: For UKey Core 26 devices successfully connected via QR code, a unique QR logo will be displayed in the corner of the hardware icon within the UKey Wallet App.
Step 3: Sign the transaction in Air-Gap mode
In this mode, any operation involving sensitive authorization (such as initiating transactions, adding accounts, or exporting addresses) needs to be completed through "two-way scanning":
Client generates request: Initiate and create a transaction on the UKey Wallet App. The application generates a QR code containing the transaction request data.
Hardware scan and authorize:
Unlock UKey Core 26 and select Scan on the screen to open the device camera.
Align and scan the transaction QR code displayed on the UKey Wallet client.
The hardware device will parse and display the specific request content of the transaction. Please carefully check the transaction information on the hardware screen, confirm it is correct, and then slide to confirm.
After the authorization is completed, UKey Core 26 will generate a "confirmation QR code" containing signature information.
The client reads the signature and broadcasts it: Click "Next" on UKey Wallet and use your mobile phone or computer camera to scan the confirmation QR code generated by UKey Core 26. After the application reads the signature data, The operation is completed and the transaction is broadcast to the blockchain network.
