This document is intended to guide users on how to safely erase local data (including private key cache and account configuration) in UKey hardware devices through system commands or underlying security mechanisms, returning restore to the factory initial state. This operation usually works forForgot device PIN、Need to generate new seed phraseorPrepare to import other walletsbackupbusiness scenario.
Core security pre-confirmation:
Objective attributes of asset status: Digital asset balances are actually recorded in the decentralized blockchain ledger, rather than locally on the physical device. As long as you hold the correct seed phrase, you can control restore on any supported terminal.
Databackup verified: Before executing the reset command, please be sure to confirm that the backup (Secret Recovery Phrase) of the current device has been properly restored. Once the device is reset, the internal data will be irreversibly and permanently destroyed.
seed phrasePhysical isolation: Please be sure to save seed phrase in physical form (such as UKey Seed titanium plate or paper record). Any form of electronic storage (such as screenshots, photo albums, cloud memos) or exposure to the network environment is strictly prohibited.
1. Hardware device reset process
Depending on whether you currently have the device to access Permissions, please select the corresponding operation path:
Scenario A: Have device access to Permissions (PIN known)
This path is suitable for scenarios where reset is actively triggered. The following operations are done withUKey Core 26 SeriesFor example:
Start the UKey hardware device and enter the correct PIN code to complete system unlocking.
Navigate to the main interface【Settings】 -> 【wallet】。
Scroll the menu to the bottom and select【Reset device】, and confirm the execution of the erase command according to the on-screen prompts.
Scenario B: No device access to Permissions (forgot PIN code)
This path achieves a forced reset by triggering the underlying protection mechanism of the hardware security chip.
Entering an incorrect PIN multiple times in a row while the device is locked.
When the number of consecutive errors reaches the system's safety fuse threshold (usually 5 or 10 times, depending on the specific device model and firmware version), the device will automatically trigger forced data erasure and return to the factory Settings state by itself.
2. Rebind UKey Wallet client
After the hardware device is successfully reset, the original device encryption pairing credentials will become invalid immediately. For the restore digital asset management function, you must first unbind the old device record in the UKey Wallet software client and then establish a new connection.
Step 1: Clear old binding records
Launch mobile or browser extensionUKey WalletClient, enter password to unlock.
Click on the main interfaceWallet name, expand the list of currently associated accounts.
Click on the top right of the list【Edit】button to enter management mode.
Locate the corresponding hardware wallet item and click the "delete icon" next to it. After carefully reading the secondary confirmation warning that pops up from the system, select【Remove device】。
Step 2: Establish a new communication connection
(Note: Before performing this step, please ensure that your hardware device has completed the preliminary Settings after leaving the factory, such as generating or importing seed phrase.)
Return to the account list interface of the UKey Wallet client.
Click【Add wallet】。
Select among connection options【Connect hardware wallet (Connect hardware wallet)】。
Complete verification and secure pairing according to the communication interaction guidance that pops up in both directions on the client and hardware screens.
